CLIFAD

Established in 1994, CLIFAD (Comité de liaison en formation à distance—distance education liaison committee) grew out of a desire to combine the efforts of Québec's three agencies entirely dedicated to distance education—SOFAD (Société de formation à distance des commissions scolaires du Québec—Québec school boards distance education agency), Cégep@distance and Télé-université (Téluq). It was designed to promote and defend the interests of distance education.

In 2004, CLIFAD kept its acronym but changed its full name to Comité de liaison interordres en formation à distance (inter-level distance education liaison committee). This coincided with a broadening of membership and of the committee's mandate in order to better represent the full range of participants involved in distance education in Québec. CLIFAD would henceforth include bimodal universities and representatives of school boards offering distance education.
